How do I feel confident in all of these different services?
Because I'm looking for the same thing regardless of the age the subject.
I find beautiful light, but the rest is a trained eye in observation of features, connection, personalities, and relationships. Even posing is simply the art of observation combined with experience.
It's one study. One art.
your family is beautiful.
The beautiful, unpredictable, hysterically funny world of being a kid, raising kids, then welcoming them into adulthood. My photography sessions with families are all about capturing big hugs, endless energy, love, and the unique personality of your growing - or almost grown - family!
The gallery above has been created over years of photography experiences, and because families come back again and again you'll see some of the same faces at different ages. A few of the little ones you see are in high school now! I keep them in my portfolio to show photographing and editing consistency.
I deliver classic, true-to-life colors because I want your collection of images to showcase your kids, not an editing trend. After years of consistent galleries, your collection over a lifetime will be consistent and ready to to display and enjoy.
Parenthood is quite the ride. Get pictures!
Family Photography Sessions
Family sessions take place at your home or on-location at a park, beach, or other spot meaningful to your family. There is so much meaning in the places we choose to spend time in, and because of that they offer so many opportunities for authentic expressions and spontaneous moments. It's within these moments that the best images are created.
Worried your toddler or teen isn't into photos? That's OK - I've got you! The toddler crowd loves my silly games and prompts to bring out their growing personalities. I'll make sure whatever stage they are at is captured because each one is so unique. Teens are typically more subdued and just want to look great, so I take the time to show them back of the camera images and make sure they are comfortable and happy. No matter what the kids ages, parents and caregivers should be in the session, too! You are the kids rock, and they love you just as you are. I promise, you'll treasure the family photographs we create together more and more as time goes by.
Best Locations for Family Photography Sessions
Family sessions are best when they occur at a place that you love - if not your home, then a park you frequent, a beach you adore, or a spot you go to be together. If you don't have one in mind, that's OK! I will absolutely let you in on my favorite spots throughout southeastern MA and RI.
Here a a few suggestions after years of photographing families, depending on your personal style:
Best romantic, castle-like family photos: Borderland State Park in Easton, MA
Best beach for low tide family photos: Scusset Beach State Park in Sandwich, MA
Best Cape Cod beach for family photos: Chapin Memorial Beach in Dennis, MA
Best Rhode Island beach family photos: Second Beach in Middletown, RI
Best place to bring dogs for family photos: Birchwold Farms in Wrentham, MA
Best place for generation (large groups!) family photos: Bird Park in Walpole, MA
Best place for intimate dreamy light in family photos: Stonybrook Nature Sanctuary in Norfolk, MA
Best location for kids who don't like dogs: Sonybrook Nature Sanctuary in Norfolk, MA
Best fall foliage location for family photos in Mass: Bird Park in Walpole, MA
Best fall foliage location for family photos in RI: Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln, RI
Best place for urban decay/grunge family photos: Medfield State Hospital, Medfield MA
[Worst place for family photos in Mass: Adams farm in Walpole, MA.
Sorry, Adams farm. The truth is some of my favorite images are taken here - it's beautiful in the right light! And I even have treasured photos from an annual fall session with my own family here. But the truth is it's a fairly small area photo-wise, it's crawling with new photographers who leave props everywhere, and the locals love letting their dogs off leash (it's a public park, not a photo studio after all!). I don't like my photos session being interrupted by strangers off-leash dogs approaching my clients or my clients accidentally finding...dog evidence. The whole experience just isn't what I am looking to give my clients. If you love this place I will happily go here just for you - on weekdays only - but I don't suggest wearing your favorite shoes!]
Multi-Generation Family photography
Often given as anniversary or birthday gifts for grandparents, these Generation Sessions include grandparents, all their kids, spouses, and all of the grandchildren, too!
My honest opinion is that these sessions are a ton of effort to schedule for large families. Figure out a couple of dates to bring to me instead of asking what dates I'm available. Scheduling well in advance is key! We will even pick a rain date when you book to ensure a great experience. The overall winning image every time? Sorry, sandwich generation, but it's the photo of the grandparent/s and their grandkids!
Newborn Photography
Best arranged before the baby's arrival, and scheduled before estimated two weeks old. In-home lifestyle newborn sessions do include photos of baby alone but we are really focused on the beauty and intimacy of those first few days with parents and siblings.
Best Location for Newborn Photography Sessions: Your house.
If you are looking for intimate, authentic lifestyle photos of your newborn let's go to the place you and your baby are most comfortable! I'll give tips on how to have a great in-home newborn session when we chat!
high school senior photos
Working with seniors is so much fun. Teens do not get enough credit these days for being the mature, polite young adults they are. I have yet to run across a High School senior portrait client who isn't thoughtful and appreciative!
Best location for high school senior photos
When it comes to location, I will go anywhere that tells the story of the student's high school career. A field, a theater, a music studio, a rink... you get the idea. Love to bake? To the kitchen! Love the beach? I'll meet you there! This is probably the only individual photo shoot most people will ever have in their entire lifetimes - how crazy is that? Let's have some fun and yes, we will take the standard yearbook photo. But why not create a portrait that really tells your story, too? Feel free to bring a team jersey or change of clothes. It's an hour just for you let's do it right!
