What an incredible treat to be invited to capture Bryanah and Ryan’s Wollaston Golf Club surprise wedding! I loved the idea as soon as I heard their story and was so honored to be a part of it. What a sweet way to tie the knot!
Of course, being a little sneaky is part of every wedding day, as we wait for the perfect moment for the father-of-the-bride to see the bride, groom and to see each other, and of course stay away from guest until the big moment. But this was totally different! We were extra careful as we walked around Lower Mills to avoid friends in the area. Many of those friends were on their way to what they thought was an engagement party. Seeing Bryanah in wedding attire certainly would have given it away!
We planned carefully and it absolutely paid off. Guests started the “engagement party” at 6:30pm. Little did they know that I showed up at 4:30 across town to photograph the bride and groom and their immediate families. Location was something Bryanah and I spent a lot of time on. Phone calls with both of us on Google maps, a walk around the area complete with test shots by Bryanah, and me calling people I knew in the area. We settled on what we simply called the green bridge on the Neponset Riverwalk. Bryanah wanted something that had an urban edge to it and it worked out wonderfully. The light that evening was incredible. The kind of light I would order up for every wedding if I could! Just enough sun poking though the clouds for a few dramatic images, and soft, diffused portrait light. Thank you, mother nature!
Finally, after portraits, we hopped in the car and it was off to the Wollaston Golf Club. I snuck quickly in through the front entrance while Bryanah and Ryan went in the back. There was a temporary wall between the bar area where guests were already having a great time and the reception area. We were only there a moment before the wall opened to reveal the couple and their families. The reactions were priceless! 
The evening capped off with a first dance, toast by father-of-the-groom, dancing, and cigars. Thank you, Bryanah and Ryan, for inviting me to capture your Wollaston Golf Club surprise wedding!
