This image happened at the end of a full day of gorgeous photo moments. The couple chose to have their Cape Cod wedding at the Chequessett Yacht and Country Club in Wellfleet, MA, where the beach is one of the most private and beautiful I've seen on the Cape for weddings. Seeing the landscape from daytime ceremony, through sunset, to moonlit beach is such a treat for guests.
I asked the couple to step away from the dance floor for a few nighttime photographs and we were surprised to be greeted by all sorts of flying creatures. We pressed forward anyway, and I set up a light behind the couple to create a dramatic backlit image. Our little flying friends also lit in, in all of their bokeh-effect glory, to create the little white circles you see throughout the frame. It adds another layer of interest to the image, and I was really happy with the result.
For me, nighttime photos are about romantic connection between the couple. I always have arms up and around each other, faces close, bodies together. I love these final images on a wedding day and am so grateful that couples trust me enough to step away from their parties for these quiet moments. It's one of my favorite parts about photographing a Cape Cod wedding.
