This portrait of a bride was taken just after the bridesmaids were done getting ready and before the wedding ceremony. The light outside was very harsh on that bright June day, so in order to make it more flattering I brought the bride indoors. I used the ambient light and historic boats as a backdrop in the Hall of Boats, and turned her so that the light from the large roll-up door in front of the hall was the main light on her face. A soft bend at the elbow, slight adjustment to. her stance, and we captured an entire series of stunning portraits.
The lighting at Herreshoff Maritime Museum can be soft or dramatic depending on where your client is in relation to the natural light and deep shadows of the huge vessels indoors. It's one of the many things I love about photographing weddings at this historic Bristol venue!
