Branding is more than a buzz word. It's important to your business, and does not have to be that complicated! What is does have to be is consistent and cohesive - and this means your photographer who is taking business headshots (or marketing photo or event photos...) needs to understand your business goals and how you communicate with your clients.
The conversation that happens before I pick up a camera includes understanding what you have in place, what is working, what may not be working so well, and where your business is headed in the next year. Do you love the images you have and want to add to the collection? And if so, how do we make that seamless? Are we starting from scratch, building a business from the ground up? Or maybe replacing something that is outdated or isn't working so well?
I will want to know who you are, who your clients are, and how it is you want to connect with them. In all the subtle ways the images that you choose to represent your business have the potential to attract your perfect clients. The photographer's care in understanding these things is going to make all the difference in making a maximum impact with your final images.
Branding photography for most small businesses starts with the people. A headshot - formal, or maybe not so formal - will introduce you to your clients. Behind the scenes images will include your product or process, but still likely include people. Product images should be consistent in style (contrast and color, among other things) with your headshot. And if you are a business that has events that benefit your clients - include those too! That can mean client appreciation events, training events, or company events that elevate your client experience. These are all a part of your story and should all be a part of your visual branding strategy.
