Red Lion Inn Winter Wedding

One for the books! An incredible white-knuckle drive to get to this bride and groom in winter weather, followed by gorgeous snowy portraits and finally, this nighttime image.

One of the things to love about a Red Lion Inn winter wedding is no matter what mother nature throws at you, there are incredible spaces both indoor and out for photographs. This couple and I took advantage of the covered bridges for bridesmaid and groomsmen photos, indoor locations for family and both barn and outdoor photos for the bride and groom. It's an incredibly wide variety for one property! To see more images from this Red Lion Inn wedding check out the full blog posthere: http://www.jessicamchale.com/2017/01/red-lion-inn-wedding/ I love that there are reds and wood tones - that place was built for a wedding just like this!

Typically to accomplish this image I will back-light the couple (meaning I will place a radio-controlled light behind them) to achieve this effect. But sometimes you need to work with what you've already got, and in this case that was an incredibly bright flood light that was on the bridge. I used that as my backlight, and use the radio-controlled off-camera flash on camera right to light the couple.

They made the image with the breath you can see in between their embrace. Gorgeous!

Oh, and yes, this is rain. It wasn't precipitation when I went to scout this image, but as soon as the bride and groom were in position the skies opened up (treat #2 from the sky that day!). I offered to turn back but the couple chose to stand for about two minutes so we could grab this image. They were amazing! And I'm so thankful that clients are as excited as I am about photographs. I'd stand in the rain for any of them!
